Fabien Guillard shared Lallemand’s expertise during Low Carbon Agriculture Consortium webinar on hyperprolific sows

We are pleased to share that Fabien Guillard, Swine Technical Manager at Lallemand Animal Nutrition, took part on April 7, 2026, in a webinar organized by the Low Carbon Agriculture Consortium (LCAC), focused on the role of hyperprolific sows to sustainable pig production.

Addressing the challenges of hyperprolific sows

Over the past 15 years, advances in swine genetics have led to the development of hyperprolific sows. While this evolution offers clear productivity benefits, it also raises new challenges in terms of management, nutrition, and sustainability.

During the webinar, Fabien highlighted the critical importance of the last stage of gestation, a key period that strongly influences:

  • Overall farm efficiency and sustainability outcomes
  • Piglet vitality and quality at birth
  • Early-life performance and robustness

The role of targeted nutritional strategies

Fabien’s presentation focused on how adapted nutritional strategies during late gestation can help better support hyperprolific sows and optimize piglet outcomes. By addressing the specific physiological needs of sows at this stage, Fabien demonstrated how our specific live yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii CNCM I-1079 (marketed as LEVUCELL SB) positively impact farrowing duration, colostrum composition, and initial gut microbiota profile of newborn piglets.

A collaborative approach to sustainability

The webinar brought together several stakeholders involved in low‑carbon agriculture, creating a platform to exchange best practices, technical expertise, and practical solutions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of pig production.

Fabien’s intervention perfectly reflects Lallemand Animal Nutrition’s commitment to science-based solutions and our contribution to more sustainable livestock production.

With approximately 60 participants attending, this session reflects the high level of interest in sustainable solutions for hyperprolific sows.
